About Us
Founded in 2003 by former UUNET managers, WiTopia was originally known as Full Mesh Networks. As such, we developed a hosted platform to secure and manage Wi-Fi networks, as well as perform Wireless Intrusion Prevention, over the Internet.
So, although highly innovative, it wasn’t a lot of fun to try and convince corporate IT departments to throw out their expensive black boxes and management contracts for some new-fangled Internet service. After all, there’s no way something so inexpensive and easy could work, right?
As we wrestled with our unexpected dilemma of being "cheaper, better, faster," opportunity was knocking (and calling...and e-mailing) but we weren’t listening yet.
Turns out, we had the right idea, but we were talking to the wrong people.
With Identity Theft, unsecured Wi-Fi networks, and anti-privacy sentiment spreading across the globe like a mutated virus, the group with the greatest need for network security and privacy was not large business, but small companies and individuals.
We hoped that simplifying typically expensive and complex network security methods and delivering them over the Internet for an incredibly low price was an idea that just might be appreciated.
We went to work and in March 2005 we launched our first set of powerful, yet simple, services: SecureMyWiFi™ to secure your own Wi-Fi network and personalVPN™ to anonymize you and encrypt your data across untrusted networks that you don’t control.
And, you know what? You did like it.
WiTopia is born.
